When my friend Trey was in seminary, he wrote a paper describing a type of gathering place that would be somewhere between a tavern, a coffeehouse, and a church. For several years Trey and I, with help from too many people to name, tried to implement Trey’s vision in several different locales. After we finally had to set the idea aside, I continued to look for a personal outlet for my thoughts on community. For a few months, I sent e-mails to a small group of family and friends, with the goal of eventually posting my thoughts on the ‘net.
